As a Relational Psychodynamic therapist, Dr. Kittinger’s approach to individual therapy focuses on transformational change through the context of relationship. In individual therapy Dr. Kittinger utilizes the therapeutic relationship as a guide to address: conscious and unconscious patterns, experiential emotion, somatic experiences, patterns of avoidance and defenses, attachment and relational history, and in-depth exploration of wants, needs, dreams, and fantasies.
Psychodynamic therapy is a relational evidence-based approach derived from Psychoanalytic theory and rooted in attachment theory. Psychodynamic treatment is defined by frequent and consistent sessions, free association and exploratory sessions, and longer-term commitment with an in-depth approach to the whole person.

Dr. Kittinger is trained in and utilizes Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples (EFT) which is a humanistic, evidence-based approach to psychotherapy, drawing primarily from attachment theory to facilitate the creation of secure, enriching, and meaningful connection. Rooted in the science of emotions and attachment, EFT helps patients identify and transform the processing and interaction of patterns that create distress. In treatment, Dr. Kittinger focuses on treating the relationship as the patient versus getting stuck in one versus another. She centers the value of understanding versus agreeing, identifying patterns, and increasing compassion to help strengthen the relationships core and build toward transformational long-lasting change. Dr. Kittinger is trained and experienced in working with LGBTQIA+ folks, non-heteronormative identities, ENM relationships and family dyads wanting relational therapy.
